Essential Oil Safety

I used to use any essential oil I could find and never even cared about the quality (or safety).

Not any more! I am super careful as to what I put ON and IN my body.

There are countless reasons why I chose dōTERRA but this is one of the biggest reasons—safety!

🌿dōTERRA’s oils are sourced from the region of the world where it is native. For example, frankincense is collected by farmers in Somalia where the Boswellia tree grows in ideal conditions. No greenhouses here!

🌿each batch goes through 8 different rounds of testing and is also subject to third party testing.

🌿here is where it gets even more amazing—because so many emerging EO companies claim to be pure, dōTERRA takes it a step further and provides the consumer with testing reports. Each batch has a lot number that you can locate on the bottom of your bottle. Enter that number into http://www.sourcetoyou.com and you can see the testing results. That is transparency.

If your preferred brand doesn’t have this strict of safety (and honesty) in mind, I encourage you to think twice.

DIY deodorant

Just how amazing is this 30ml roller filled with DIY deodorant!? It is common knowledge that traditional deodorant contains some really nasty things. I have been on the hunt for a good recipe for DIY deodorant using essential oils for quite some time and I think I hit the jackpot!

Here is my recipe for a jumbo 30ml roller:

  • 20 drops lemon
  • 20 drops melaleuca
  • 20 drops lemongrass
  • 10 drops patchouli
  • 10 drops Whisper blend

I am sure you can substitute other oils of your preference but the lemon, lemongrass and melaleuca are key to keeping the stink away.

More On the Brain

The other day I made a post about how essential oils affect the brain and I wanted to continue on that post today. Another way that essential oils affect the brain is through our smell receptors that travel up to the olfactory bulb. These smell receptors make direct links to the limbic system, a complex system of nerves and networks in the brain.

The limbic system connects to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, hormone balance, emotion, and mood. Different chemicals in odor molecules cause different nerve impulses to be sent

Depending on the type and amount of essential oils used, different body reactions can occur. Certain essential oils trigger the brain to release specific neurochemicals such as endorphins, serotonin, and enkephalin. These substances reduce pain and inflammation, calm and relax the body, and create a feeling of well-being. This is why essential oils can be so helpful when using them aromatically!

You can use essential oils aromatically by just adding a few drops to your diffuser with water or you can breathe in the aroma out of cupped hands or from the bottle. You can add 1-3 drops to a tissue or cotton ball & inhale, and you can also wear oils as perfume or in diffuser necklaces to get the aromatic benefits!

Facial Hair Remedy

Not exactly a fun topic, but it happens.

Fluctuations in hormones and aging can cause some unusual things to happen to our face! Ack! I have made my youngest solemnly swear that he will NEVER allow me to have chin hair when I get old.

How awesome is this tho? The amazing properties of honey combined with fresh lemon and lemon essential oil naturally get rid of unwanted fuzz!

Sometimes we forget that our bodies have the ability to stay healthy when given the proper tools—diet, exercise, sleep, reducing toxic load, reducing stress and more.

I love that essential oils play a huge part in my health—reducing toxic load, helping with sleep/stress, assisting with better breathing during exercise, flavoring my foods and giving my body a boost of goodness, helping to manage pain and so much more.

Oils are not going to cure anything, but they are going to help your body do it’s own part in the staying healthy. They are tools for your tool box and when used consistently and properly can have amazing effects. Plus it’s pretty darn empowering to take control of your healthy, naturally.

If you are ready, just go to:

For the MEN! I am making these up for my fellas for their stockings 🙂
The blend below is both woodsy and spicy. For a more earthy aroma, use vetiver, patchouli and spikenard. Or mix and match, you can’t go wrong.
4oz glass bottle
10 drops melaleuca
5 drops white fir or Siberian fir
3 drops black pepper (or other spicy oil like clove)
4 drops peppermint
4 drops cypress or cedarwood
Top off with fractionated coconut oil.
